A Little Help,
Without the Detour.
Something not looking right? We’re here to help with Octane, from finding your next stop to getting your saved places just how you like them.
Send Us What Helps
Email keeeaaan@protonmail.com with the app version, your iPhone/iPad model, iOS version and a short description of what happened. A screenshot can help—please remove private addresses, vehicle details or other personal information first.
For beta feedback, you can also use Send Beta Feedback in TestFlight. Apple may share diagnostic information and anything you choose to include with the developer.
Using the Web Fuel Map
Search by station name, town or postcode, then choose Petrol E10, Premium Petrol E5 or Diesel B7. A search matches the station catalogue’s text; it is not a general address or place-search service. Select Search This Area after moving the map to limit results to that view. Map Proximity is straight-line distance from the map centre, not a driving distance or a GPS claim.
Choose a station card or map marker to open details and directions. Grouped markers zoom in; stations at the same point open a chooser. Use My Location asks your browser for a single optional location fix. Denied or unavailable location does not prevent manual search. Hide List gives the map more space on a phone.
The web map uses a dated Fuel Finder snapshot, not a live pump feed. An eligible price must have a confirmed report within seven days, be effective now and come from a snapshot fetched less than 24 hours ago. Older, future-effective, missing or invalid prices are hidden. Prices at temporarily closed stations are not offered as current prices. The station catalogue remains searchable after prices expire. Check the pump before paying.
Contains public sector information licensed under the Open Government Licence v3.0. Source: Fuel Finder. Map data © OpenStreetMap contributors. The map requests visible tiles from the OpenStreetMap Foundation; availability is best-effort. No offline tile downloads or background tile prefetching are provided. See our privacy notice for map requests and optional location.
The web map currently covers fuel discovery. EV tariffs, connectors and reported availability are part of the iPhone app, subject to its provider coverage. Octane does not start charging sessions or take payments.
Quick Answers
Why Is a Price or Charger Status Different?
Octane displays information supplied by station feeds and charging networks. Prices and reported availability can change after the last update, and some networks don’t share every tariff or fee. Check the update time and any estimated or extra-fee labels, then confirm with the pump or network before paying. Tell us the station name and what looks wrong; the station operator handles billing and charging faults.
Can I Use Octane Without Location Access?
Yes. You can search for a place or choose a point on the map. Manchester is the starting map view when a usable location isn’t available; it isn’t treated as your GPS location. Current Location and driving guidance need location permission. Change it in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services → Octane.
How Do Journey Costs and Local Savings Work?
These are estimates based on your entered vehicle settings, selected fill amount, route and available prices. Local fuel comparisons include the estimated fuel cost of driving there and back. They don’t read your vehicle’s actual battery or fuel consumption.
Does Navigation Work in the Background?
The current Octane build provides foreground guidance. It does not provide background navigation, spoken guidance or a production speed-limit feed. Use the navigation app that suits your journey, and only interact with driving controls while safely stopped or as a passenger.
Why Is a Widget Price Missing or Out of Date?
Widgets show a small cached snapshot of your selected saved stations, rather than fetching live data themselves. Open Octane to refresh the station. iOS controls widget refresh timing, and expired prices are withheld. Removing a favourite also removes its widget selection.
How Do I Change or Remove My Places?
Use the controls in Octane to edit saved places, remove favourites and clear recent searches. These are stored locally, not in an Octane account. Deleting the app removes its app-local data; device backups and any remaining widgets are managed by iOS.
Why Can’t I Join the Beta Yet?
Open the TestFlight invitation to check current availability. If it says no build is available, please try again later; external builds depend on Apple’s review. You’ll need Apple’s TestFlight app. The beta is planned to run for 14 days from external availability, followed by fixes and release preparation.
